How to claim a product listed under another account

Sometimes your product is already on Uneed, but not on your account: a teammate or an agency submitted it, a former employee owns the login, you bought the product from its maker, or you simply signed up twice. You can take it over yourself, without waiting for us.

First, check you actually need to claim it

Look at Your products in your dashboard while logged in. If the product is there, it's already yours and there's nothing to claim.

A common case: you started a submission, didn't finish it, and it looks like "someone else" has the product. An unfinished submission has no launch date yet. Open it from your dashboard and complete it to join the waiting line.

If it's not in Your products, keep reading.

Where to start the claim

It depends on whether the product has launched yet.

  • The product is published (it has a live page with a launch date in the past): open its page on Uneed and click "Is this your product? Claim it" under the Publisher block.
  • The product is still in the waiting line (the page says Launching Soon, or the submit form tells you the slug is already taken): go through the submit flow with the same website URL and click "It's my product".

In both cases, log in first with the account that should end up owning the product.

Prove you control the domain

Both methods are automatic. You only need one.

Option 1: your account email is on the product's domain. If the product is acme.com and your verified Uneed email is anything @acme.com, it's one click. Free mailboxes (Gmail, Outlook, Proton and the like) don't count, and neither does any address on another domain, since they prove nothing about who controls the product.

Option 2: a DNS TXT record. The claim page gives you the exact record to add:

  • Type: TXT
  • Host: @ (the root of the domain)
  • Value: starts with uneed-verify=

Add it at your domain registrar or DNS provider, come back and hit verify. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, so it's fine to check again later. A claim stays open for 7 days. You can delete the record once the claim is done.

What happens once it's verified

The product moves to your account immediately. It keeps:

  • its URL and slug
  • its launch date, if it's in the waiting line
  • its launch history, votes and backlink, if it has already launched

The previous owner is notified and loses access. Co-owners they had added stay on the team, and you can remove them from the product's team page.

From there you can edit everything (description, screenshots, links) for free. If you'd like an earlier launch date than the one it has, Fast-track gets you a slot in about two weeks, and Skip the Waiting Line lets you pick any date.

When the self-serve claim doesn't work

Email us with the product URL in these cases:

  • The product lives on a shared platform (app stores, GitHub Pages, Notion, Vercel previews, Gumroad and similar). Owning a page there proves nothing about the domain, so we check by hand.
  • You can't use either verification method. We'll verify another way before moving anything, because a transfer hands over control of a listing.
  • You'd rather have the old listing deleted so you can resubmit from scratch.

For password problems, lost accounts and moving a Uneed Pro subscription, see Account access and product transfers.
