Account access and product transfers
Password reset isn't working
If you request a reset and nothing arrives, the most common explanation is the simplest one: there is no account on that email address. Either you signed up with a different address, or you used a social login rather than a password.
Try any other address you might have used. If none of them work, email us and we can look up which account a listing belongs to.
"My product isn't in Your products"
We can check which account a listing sits under and tell you the masked email address it's registered to. That's usually enough for you to recognise it: an old work address, a co-founder's, a personal Gmail.
Send us the product URL and we'll look it up. Or skip the lookup entirely and claim the product yourself, see below.
Claiming a product yourself
If a product is listed under an account you can't use anymore (an ex-employee, an agency, a previous owner, a lost login), you can take it over without waiting for us. Open the product page on Uneed, look for "Is this your product? Claim it" under the Publisher block, and log in with the account that should own it. If the listing is still in the waiting line and someone else submitted it, the same door opens from the "It's my product" button when you try to submit the same URL.
Then prove you control the product's domain. Either of these works, and both are automatic:
- Your account email is on the product's domain. If the product is
2pr.ioand your verified Uneed email is anything@2pr.io, it's one click. Free mailboxes (Gmail, Outlook, Proton and the like) don't count, since anyone can open one. - Add a DNS TXT record on the product's domain. The claim page gives you the exact record: type
TXT, host@(the root of the domain), and a value that starts withuneed-verify=. Add it at your registrar, come back and hit verify. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, so it's fine to check again later. A claim stays open for 7 days.
Once verified, the product moves to your account immediately. It keeps its URL, its launch history, its votes and its backlink. The previous owner is notified and loses access; co-owners they had added stay on the team and you can remove them from the product's team page. You can delete the TXT record afterwards.
Products hosted on a shared platform (app stores, GitHub Pages, Notion, Vercel previews, Gumroad and similar) can't be verified this way, because owning a page there proves nothing about the domain. For those, email us with the product URL and we'll check by hand.
Transferring a product to another account
The self-serve claim above is the fastest way to move a listing. If it doesn't fit your case, we can move it for you. Two things to know:
- The destination account must exist first. Create it before asking us, otherwise there's nothing to move the product to.
- We verify ownership before transferring. Unlike removals, a transfer gives someone control of an asset, so we check first: a reply from an email address on the product's domain, or a DNS TXT record whose value we give you.
Transferring a Pro subscription
Uneed Pro can be moved between accounts too, on the same conditions: destination account created first, ownership verified. Email us and tell us which account it should end up on.
Ex-employees, agencies and acquisitions
These are the cases we see most: someone left the company, an agency submitted on your behalf and you've lost touch, or you acquired the product from its original maker.
All three are handled the same way: claim the product from its page with the email or the DNS record, and it's yours in minutes. If you'd rather have the listing deleted so you can resubmit, or if the domain can't be verified, email us with the product URL and tell us which you'd prefer.
